BLOG 260: ‘YOUR POETRY IS MY FAVOURITE ESCAPE’

I very much consider myself as a free-verse poet. I don’t like restricting myself to word counts, syllables, structures, rhyme or rules of any kind. I do, however, love a good villanelle.

I think I just contradicted myself.

Never mind.

Bet you know what I’m going to say next, don’t you?

Yep. I wrote one. I wrote a villanelle today. Let me know what you think of it. This is ‘Your poetry… is my favourite escape’.

Your poetry… is my favourite escape

You complicate things with your eyes.
They speak a million stories, dancing with mine.
And complication is the most beautiful disguise.

Darling, I hate that you tip-toe through life,
afraid of dressing up your heart tonight.
God, you complicate things with your eyes.

You’re like a song I haven’t heard in ages,
complicating with your lips tonight, and mine.
And complication is the most beautiful disguise.

And why are you looking at me like that?
I’m trying to read the poetry from your mind
but you just complicate things with your eyes.

You don’t sing as loud as you used to,
and we’re hiding from the world tonight.
Complication is the most beautiful disguise.

And you have the most beautiful mind,
it’s my favourite escape from time to time.
Because your complicate things with your eyes,
and complication is the most beautiful disguise.
